v2rayN / v2rayNG Official Site and Download: Real Sources, Verification, Fixes
If you searched for the v2rayN official site, a download, or v2rayNG, the first job is telling the official sources from third-party ones. This page covers the official sources, how to confirm a download hasn't been tampered with, system requirements, and the errors people hit most.

The short answer
v2rayN's official website is 2dust.link — it is the address the author lists as the homepage on the GitHub repository, with a download subsite each for v2rayN and v2rayNG, and a way through to the GitHub releases. The source of the releases is GitHub: 2dust/v2rayN (the Android build, v2rayNG, is 2dust/v2rayNG). Each release file has a .sig signature beside it and the public key sits on the release page; the repository says this is to prevent hijacking by mirrors, ISPs and CDNs. A site that calls itself the v2rayN "official site" but isn't under those domains is not official. v2rayN is portable software — there is no installer; unzip and run.
Download sources: the official site and GitHub
| Source | Official? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2dust.link | Yes (official site) | The official website, as listed in the GitHub repository's homepage field; titled the v2rayN / v2rayNG official website, with a way in to each download. |
| v2rayn.2dust.link, v2rayng.2dust.link | Yes | Download listings under the official site, hosting the release files with size and update time. |
| GitHub: 2dust/v2rayN and 2dust/v2rayNG releases | Yes (source of the releases) | The .sig signature files and the public key v2rayN-public-key.asc are here. |
| Other sites calling themselves the "v2rayn official site" | No | Not under the domains the author lists; can't be checked against the official release. |
How to confirm the download hasn't been altered
A proxy client handles all your traffic, and a modified installer is nearly impossible to spot by eye. Every v2rayN release file has a same-named .sig file beside it, and the release page carries the public key, v2rayN-public-key.asc, so you can verify with GPG.
- Download only from the official sources in the table above — not from file-sharing links, forum posts, or "download sites" in search results. To verify a signature, use the .sig files and public key on the GitHub release page.
- To verify a signature: import the public key from the release page, then verify the file against its .sig (the commands are gpg --import and gpg --verify).
- A passing check means the file matches what the author published. It can't tell you what the software does — which is true of any open-source client.
Requirements by system
There is no installer: unzip and run, and your data stays in the folder. Copy the whole folder and change the listen port to run several instances side by side. Install to a path that is English-only, has no spaces, and has no permission restrictions.
Windows 7: officially "theoretically possible". Golang dropped Win7, so each core needs a hand-placed special build, and v2rayN itself needs .NET 8. Unless you have a hard reason, we wouldn't bother.
| System | Minimum | Architectures | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10+ | x64 / x86 / arm64 | The plain zip (v2rayN-windows-64.zip) has the WPF interface; the -desktop zip has the Avalonia interface. Same features. The 32-bit build is v2rayN-windows-86.zip. |
| macOS | 13.6+ | Intel (x64) / Apple silicon (arm64) | Pick v2rayN-macos-64 for Intel or v2rayN-macos-arm64 for Apple silicon. The dmg is unsigned and may show an "app is damaged" message; see the troubleshooting table below. |
| Linux | Debian 12 / Ubuntu 22.04 / Fedora 36 / RHEL 9+ | x64 / arm64 / riscv64 / loong64 | deb, rpm and zip provided |
v2rayN setup: import a subscription and enable it
- 1
Get the link
- From your provider's dashboard or support, get a generic subscription link
- App-only providers have no such link
- 2
Add the subscription
- Create a subscription group and paste the address
- Update the subscription and wait for the node list
- 3
Pick a node and enable
- Select a node and set it as the active server
- Choose the automatic system-proxy option
Menu names change between versions; follow the interface in the version you downloaded.
Cores and protocols: why the core matters more than the interface
Whether a node connects depends on whether the client's core speaks its protocol, not on how nice the interface is. Support by core:
| Protocol | Xray | sing-box | mihomo | Original Clash core |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VMess / Shadowsocks / Trojan | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| VLESS | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| REALITY | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Hysteria 2 | No | Yes | Yes | No |
| TUIC | No | Yes | Yes | No |
- REALITY is an Xray invention, so Xray-based clients handle it most naturally.
- Hysteria 2 and TUIC are not in Xray-core; a client needs sing-box or mihomo for them.
- v2rayN releases bundle the Xray, sing-box and mihomo cores, so every protocol in the table is covered.
- This is also the usual reason "the nodes imported but nothing connects" on old clients: the original Clash core cannot speak the newer protocols at all.
Which provider for v2rayN? Start with these 3 — buy now
v2rayN can only import a provider's subscription link: to keep using it, pick one that issues a link; to skip the hassle, pick one with its own app. 10 of the 16 providers we list offer only their own dedicated app, so v2rayN can't use them.

Common errors and fixes
| Symptom | Usual cause and fix |
|---|---|
| "Core failed to run" on a latency or speed test | A bad config, a config the core no longer supports, or a local listen port already taken (a VM is the classic culprit). Set the log level to Debug and look again. |
| System proxy shows HTTP but no SOCKS | Windows' system proxy only supports HTTP, not SOCKS5. It isn't a v2rayN fault. |
| macOS says the app is damaged and won't open | The dmg is unsigned. Once you're sure the file came from the GitHub releases page, run xattr -cr /Applications/v2rayN.app in Terminal. Don't do this to a file of unknown origin. |
| macOS automatic system proxy does nothing | It works by calling a script; look in guiLogs for the failure. |
| Can't find the logs | UI, settings and speed-test problems: the guiLogs folder. Node and connection problems: the info panel in the main window. |
v2rayN FAQ
v2rayN download and use
What is v2rayN's official site?
It is 2dust.link (the download subsites are v2rayn.2dust.link and v2rayng.2dust.link), which is also the address the author lists as the homepage on the GitHub repository. The source of the releases is the 2dust/v2rayN releases page on GitHub, where the signature files are. Other sites calling themselves the official site are not official.
What's the difference between v2rayN and v2rayNG?
v2rayN is for Windows, macOS and Linux; v2rayNG is for Android. They are separate projects by the same author. v2rayN ships Xray, sing-box and other cores; v2rayNG uses the Xray and v2fly cores.
Does v2rayN need installing?
No. The release is a portable zip: unzip and run, with your data kept in the folder. Copy the folder and change the listen port to run several instances at once.
I searched "v2ray download" — is v2rayN what I want?
v2ray is the name of the core project; most people actually want a client with an interface — on a computer that's usually v2rayN, on Android v2rayNG. Use the official sources in the table above (the 2dust.link site and the GitHub releases), not a "download site" from search results.
Is there a mobile version of v2rayN, and does it work on an iPhone?
There is no mobile version of v2rayN: it exists for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the Android counterpart is v2rayNG. Neither runs on an iPhone — for the common iPhone clients, see the Shadowrocket page.
Will v2rayN definitely work with the service I bought?
Not necessarily. v2rayN only imports generic subscription links; a provider that works only in its own app has no such link. Even with a link, whether v2rayN accepts its format is for the provider to confirm — ask support before you buy.
